What I Help With

Depression

Amy Clark, Psy.D.'s Therapy Dog

Living with depression can feel like you are going through the motions of life without the ability to enjoy the things that once made you happy. Sometimes it’s not even possible to go through the motions each day. Depression can feel like being a prisoner inside your own head—bound by negative thought patterns and emotions and unable to fully live. Together we can talk about the things you are thinking and feeling, work toward finding new solutions for taking hold of your life and find the freedom to enrich and nourish your world.

Anxiety

Anxiety can be unbearable at its worst and can lead to panic. Feelings of impending doom, nervousness and worry, or an inability to concentrate and focus can be debilitating. Let’s explore your thoughts and feelings which may be leading to these symptoms, as well as anything from your history that may have contributed to your anxiety. By working together toward finding new ways of approaching the things in life that may trigger anxiety, it is possible to modify beliefs and behaviors forming new ways to alleviate symptoms and cope with any triggers.

Trauma

Trauma can manifest in many forms and may accompany feelings of depression and anxiety. Once we develop a safe, trustworthy, and confidential relationship, you will have the freedom to explore any traumatic experiences at your own pace. Trauma can influence your self-talk and belief systems, which have a direct affect on your ability to self-regulate emotions and behaviors. By challenging these negative thoughts and beliefs, we can work together toward treating and healing the symptoms of trauma you are experiencing, while helping you develop coping skills and self-manage symptoms.

Self-Esteem

Throughout the years, beginning in childhood, our experiences influence the way we talk to ourselves and the beliefs we hold about our own self-worth. When we experience feelings of rejection or a lack of recognition or attention, negative messages and self-talk can develop. Over the years these messages may become reinforced by our behaviors leading toward circumstances that validate our beliefs. After a while, these negative messages we tell ourselves start to become second-nature—causing us to have low self-esteem. We can work together in our therapy sessions toward turning around self-esteem issues by confronting the negative self-talk and challenging these belief systems. In working together toward healing and change, it is possible to develop positive self-talk over time that becomes reinforced, and with patience, second-nature.

Relationship Issues

Experiencing conflict in your relationships may feel stressful and even devastating at times. Through talking things out and exploring your feelings surrounding your relationships, we can process and explore any relationship issues you bring into session, help you develop ways for coping with any conflicts that may arise in the future, and find meaning and opportunity for growth, healing, and change through any current struggles.

Life Transitions

There are life transitions for all of us such as leaving a relationship, navigating a divorce, changing jobs, or watching your children leave home. Sometimes these transitions might be overwhelming, and you just feel stuck without a clear direction forward. It can be helpful to talk to a professionnal to help you look at those patterns from a different perspective so you can move forward in your life.
